The Network Subcentre of Information on Natural Protection Zones and Biological Diversity

The establishment of the subcentre of Natural Protection Zones and the Biological Diversity Information System is managed by the Nanjing Institute of Environment Sciences subordinated to the State Environmental Protection Administration. The information in the subcentre includes a brief introduction of the subcentre, organizing mechanisms, natural protection zones, ecological tourism, biological diversification, biological safety, international treaties, laws and regulations, activities under the treaties, brief reports on agreement implementation, advices for the users, etadatabases, information feedbacks, document downloading, other related websites and so on. The subcentre adopts speedy Ethernet
technology which enables it to be linked to the Internet. Please refer to the diagram for the structure of the network.

The website furnishes convenient and speedy tools for searching and statistics which technically support data collection, analysis, evaluation and planning of development of natural protection zones. It is suitable to serve for the eco-travel industry and public education for biodiversity protection. It helps with management, searching and adoption of biodiversity statistics and research on bio-safety, which is beneficial for the formulation of series of biosafety administrative systems and the reduction of environmental risks resulting from biotechnical modification and informs on technical safeguard measures and informational backup with regard to exports of genetically modified products in international trades.
